Fall Fundraising is over ... / PTA Meeting 11.18.13

Thank you to all the families who participated in our Fall Fundraisers, 
school photos, Miss Chocolate and Kidstuff Coupon Books !!  
The fundraisers are over ... phew !!
We are happy to report that Chestnut Street School had the most sales in Miss Chocolate and George Washington had the most sales in the Kidstuff Coupon Book fundraiser, with Cornwell Avenue a close second.
Everyone's effort together makes them all a success !!!


PTA Meeting tomorrow night.  Monday, November 18, 2013 at George Washington Elementary School Cafeteria at 7:30 pm.  We have wonderful raffles and loads of information.  Come hear from parents, teachers and Principals about what is going n at your child's school !!

Miss Chocolate orders

Thank you to all the families who ordered from Miss Chocolate for one of our Fall fundraisers.  The orders are in with Miss Chocolate and we will have the merchandise ready for you to pick up on 
Tuesday, October 29, 2013.  
You will pick up your order at your child's school at dismissal.  
Someone (an adult)  MUST sign for the items.  So, if your friend or neighbor, parent or spouse is getting your order they will have to sign for the order, just let them know.
Each school will have a designated area to pick up the orders.

We did very well and OUR children thank you in advance for all the things they will get in return !!!

Pre-order and they will be delivered in time for holiday shopping !!
They have many great coupons for a lot of stores in our area.

FUNDRAISING Continues ....

Well the year is off to a great start.  Kids seem to have the schedules down pat and are having fun in all the schools.
Fundraising is a big part of our PTA and every dime goes back to OUR kids.  The programs that come into schools are paid for by the PTA.  The Scholastic news that the kids get, paid for by the PTA.  SO, as you already know we are off and running with our fundraising.
- The first was Miss Chocolate.  Orders are in and we should have delivery shortly.  We will post the pick-up date for you ASAP.  Thank you to our chairpeople -

- Second was School Photo Day at all three schools.  Every thing went very smoothly, thanks in HUGE part to our chairpeople,
CA - Lisa Cates, GW - Natalie Pendergast and CS - Mindy Capra.  

Without these Moms and all of their helpers we would be in BIG trouble!!
So thank you once again ladies and gentlemen !

Back to School !!

OK, so we are back and off to a great start !!  We know that the beginning of the year is crazy with adjusting to new schedules and teachers and papers and meetings etc..  However, we do need YOUR help !! The PTA is for EVERY child.  Our first meeting of the new 2013-2014 school year will be held on 
Monday, September 30 at 7:30pm in the GW Cafeteria.  
(**This is a different location than last year - so make a note).  Come and sign up for what ever you can.  We need help from EVERYONE to make another successful year in the West Hempstead Elementary Schools.  We hope to see you on teh 30th and bring a friend.
We do this for ALL OF OUR children.

Budget Cafe

DON'T FORGET ....

The next Budget Cafe will be held tomorrow,
Wednesday, February 6th at 7:30 pm 
in the West Hempstead Middle School Cafeteria.

It is very important for everyone to attend this meeting to get an update on our present budget considerations and conversation pertaining to how to solve this problem as a community.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Thanks for the great turnout at the meeting last night.  The District and the parents both feel safety and security of our children is paramount.  Security guards have been put in place at the Elementary level.  Principals were on hand to answer some questions from parents, as was Mr Hogan.  Teachers have been practicing "drills" with the children and keeping them calm in case of an emergency.  After last week at Chestnut Street, it seems to be working, great job by all at Chestnut Street !

Don't forget about the next Budget Cafe is February 6, 2013 at 7:30pm at the WHMS Cafeteria.
It matters to all of us, come out and be heard.  PLEASE mark your calendar and attend.

safety and security issues at our schools.  
Teachers will be present with reports from

PTA Meeting - January 28

Happy New Year !! The first PTA meeting of the new year 2013 will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013 at Cornwell Avenue School Cafeteria at 7:30 pm.

- Our Principals will speak about safety and security, measures already in place and what will be implemented in the future.
- Come and hear teacher reports.
- Get important information on upcoming activities and fundraisers.
- Find out what's going on in your child's school.

SCHOOL is CLOSED Monday ...

Please be advised that due to the approach of Hurricane Sandy and the possibility of dangerous conditions existing tomorrow, all West Hempstead Schools will be closed on Monday, October 29, 2012.  All activities are cancelled as well.

Please be further advised that the American Red Cross will be opening an evacuation shelter at West Hempstead High School beginning at 7pm this evening (Sunday) to service any of our neighbors who may be in need of such services.

PTA MEETING

Tomorrow night at 7:30 pm at Cornwell Avenue School, we will hold our monthly meeting.  This meeting is an important one.  The principals will be giving a short presentation regarding the Common Core Report Cards.  These are completely new report cards for us, so come see what its all about.  Come find out what changes are in store for us all.  There will be refreshments served and also a raffle at the end of the meeting.  There will also be the usual information from the teachers and PTA Executive Board.

Off to a great start ...

Well, the school year 2012-2013 is off to a great start.  The kids seem to be getting into the swing of things and our committee's are off and running !!

Miss Chocolate, our first fundraiser this year is due back October 3rd.  Please send it in to your child's class. You do not have to order everything, but every bit helps - so one or two things is great !!
Remember, the funds we raise go right back to the kids for all their fun programs.

School Pictures are Friday, October 5th, send in your kids with their smiles extra big that day !!!

Once again, this is worth repeating.  Stop & Shop, Target and Box Tops for Education are all very EASY ways to get FREE money for our schools.

WELCOME TEA at Chestnut Street School

Well, it's almost that time again, Back-to-School.
The PTA will be hosting their annual "Welcome Tea" at Chestnut Street School.
It will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2012 immediately after drop-off at 8:40 am.
SO if you have a child attending Chestnut Street School for the first time or if it's your second, third or even fourth child attending, come to the Welcome Tea to meet the PTA and see what is happening in the PTA for the coming year.  Light refreshments will be served and questions can be answered.

Summer is flying by ...

Well, before you know it, we will back in school !! "Yay" for some,  "nay" for others !
The summer always seems to go so fast.  Is it because there isn't much of a schedule ?  Or because we are having too much fun ??  Who knows, but time does seem to fly when you're having fun.

The schedule of PTA General Meetings is now up for the 2012-2013 school year.  All general PTA meetings will take place at Cornwell Avenue this year (last year they were at GW).  They will start at 7:30pm and usually last about an hour to an hour and a half depending on topics being covered and teacher and/or Principal reports.  Last year we had a good turn out, we would like this year to be even better.  Get involved, bring a friend.  The more the merrier.  Remember there is a raffle at the end of each meeting and you could win a great prize, bring a friend.

Have a new neighbor?  Not a new neighbor, but someone who is just beginning their education in any of our schools? Bring them.  Show your kids you want to know what is going on in there schools and with the teachers and Principals.

At our last meeting in June we had the sign up binders for this coming years committees - it's not too late, it's actually NEVER to late to volunteer !!  Come on out to the September meeting and sign up for something, anything - it's fun - get involved.  Whatever you can offer to volunteer, we will gladly accept it !!

Enjoy the remainder of your summer, before you know it the first day of school will be here and we will have to get back into the schedules of school, again "yay" and "nay".

Graduation Tomorrow ...

Congratulations to all the Fifth Grade Graduates from George Washington Elementary School and Cornwell Avenue Elementary School  !!  Tomorrow is the day you have all been working so hard for, and we wish you all the best in Middle School.  We as a PTA and community are very proud of each one of the graduates !!!

Last PTA Meeting of the year TONIGHT !!

Well, the end is almost here.  TONIGHT is the last PTA meeting of the school year 2011-2012.  It has been a great year.  Come out tonight to the GW Cafeteria at 7:30pm to sign up for committees for next year, see what is happening as the year draws to a close and see what is planned for next year, OR just come and get into the raffle and refreshments !!
It's hard to believe we have finished another school year.  They seem to go faster and faster.  Every child benefits from what the PTA does, come be part of it - it's fun and rewarding !!!
Sign-up binders will be out for next years festivities and programs, please come check it out.  The binders will be out again in September, but why not get a head start ??
