STOP & SHOP cards - REGISTER them !!!

We hate to keep repeating this but it is SO easy and needs to be repeated to remind people.  If you register your Stop and Shop card, for free - they will in turn give your designated school a portion of your grocery bill total - FOR FREE !!  It is very simple.  Step 1 - log onto Stop & Shop website, www.stopandshop.com/aplus  Step 2 - enter your information and select your school.  Done. Thank you.

Now, for Chestnut Street School we have 10 cards registered. Only 10.  Stop & Shop is right here in our neighborhood.  George Washington Elementary has 50 cards registered ($140 approximately, so far), I KNOW there are more than 50 families that shop at Stop & Shop.  REGISTER your card.  Cornwell Avenue School has 32 cards registered (approximately $80 so far).  PLEASE go register, I know times are tough, but no matter how much you spend they give us a certain percentage for FREE - thats NO money out of your pocket.  You are shopping at S & S anyway, they give the school of your choice FREE money !!!  PLEASE REGISTER YOUR STOP & SHOP CARD !

10 years later ... We will never forget

Most of our fifth graders were born in 2001.  They never got to see the Twin Towers in person.  It is hard to believe they are in fifth grade, but it also so hard to imagine that 10 years ago today the Twin Towers fell.  People from our neighborhood were lost.  People from our neighborhood were first responders.  People from our neighborhood will never forget.

STOP & SHOP Cards - Please Register

We all know that we have a Super Stop & Shop right in our own backyard !! Stop & Shop has a great program, in which they give money to schools.  All you (and your family & friends) have to do is register your customer card every year and designate a school.  You can choose GW, Chestnut or Cornwell.  At the end of each year, each school receives a check form Stop & Shop.  They give a certain percentage based on your purchases and believe me it adds up !!  So, have your friends and family who don't have children in the schools register their cards too to help YOUR children's school to earn some extra money and it is FREE !!!  Please go to www.stopandshop.com/aplus  THAT'S IT - yes I know it is hard to believe, but it really is that simple.  You must re-register each year but it only takes a few minutes.  Thank you very much in advance for the monies that will be raised for our children.

First Day back ..

So today seemed to go pretty well.  Everyone at all the schools looked like they were happy to be back!!  We know the staff at all three schools were happy to see the kids back in action.  The fifth graders are starting their last year of elementary school and they look so mature in their new roles.  The littlest newcomers to Chestnut Street have a lot ahead of them !!
Congratulations to Mr. Rehman on his new position in the High School, we hope HE had a great first day !! Although he will be missed terribly at Chestnut Street, he is a great addition to the High School.

Welcome back each and every student and staff member, we are looking forward to a GREAT 2011-2012 school year !!!

FREE MONEY FOR OUR SCHOOLS ... FREE !!!

Yes you read correctly, FREE money.  There are some very simple things you need to do, and the school you select (Chestnut Street School, Cornwell Avenue School or George Washington Elementary School) will receive FREE MONEY,
because of YOU !!!
First of all there is Target.  Who doesn't love Target ?  They have everything!  If you open (or already have) a Target credit card account you can choose your child's school to receive a certain percentage from Target.  (www.TARGET.com)

Next, there is Stop & Shop.  We know a lot of our parents shop there.  All you have to do is register your customer card. Beginning on September 8th, go to www.STOPANDSHOP.com/aplus and register your card (and your parents, neighbors, friends, whomever isn't signing up for their own school). You MUST re-register EVERY YEAR !!! Its that easy.  Really.  And whichever school you choose will receive a percentage of your purchases.
And last but certainly not least ... Box Tops for Education.  Each class collects them and has a contest.  These labels are on things that you buy anyway, so cut them off and send them into school.  Go on their website (www.BoxTops4Education.com) and enter contests and learn which products have the box tops to cut out. This too, you can have friends and family help, have them save them for you and send the into your child's class - maybe that class will win the contest at the end of the year !!

TONIGHT, TONIGHT, TONIGHT

Tonight is the LAST PTA meeting of the year.  The sign-up books will be out for those who wish to help out on a committee next year.  You do not have to chair an event, most committees require very little help.  So, why don't you sign-up ???  It helps the kids and your kids would LOVE to see you at school or helping out in some way, ask them.  If you are still not sure, ask any Board Member and they will tell you which committee is best for beginners ... get your feet wet, try it !!!  These committee's are here to help the children, OUR children, ALL of OUR children so give it a shot, you'll love it !

Anyway, tonight 7:30pm at Cornwell Avenue School cafeteria.  See you there !
Wonder who will win tonight's raffle ???  Could be YOU !!!!

Every bit helps !!!  If, for whatever reason you CANNOT make a meeting (you can still sign-up in September), PLEASE contact us through here (make a comment, let us know your name and what you want to sign-up for), Facebook, e-mail or contact a Board member and we will get you signed up !!! Its that easy.  Don't feel left out, we can ALL be a part of the PTA.  There are many committees to join, for example - fundraising (photo day, Kidsstuff books, bookfair), Staff Appreciation Day, Special Persons Day, Spring Boutique and MANY, MANY more things we need volunteers for.  Your kids would LOVE to see you helping out in some way, however big or little it is.

May in West Hempstead Elementary Schools

Well, May is over and the last month of school is upon us.  It is hard to believe another year os almost done !!  Last month we had a lot going on at CA, CS, GW.  To start with we had our plant sale and Spring Boutique which were both successful.

At Chestnut Street the children enjoyed "Butterfly Boogie", a semi-puppet show explaining the life-cylce of butterflies, ask a kindergartner how it was !!

The Middle School had their Spring Concert, which we hear went wonderfully !!

The West Hempstead Elementary PTA received an award for having 25% of our membership as fathers !  Way to go guys !  Something that not every PTA gets.
Now that the year is quickly ending, don't forget about Summer Reading.  The reading lists will be posted on the website shortly.  Keep the kids reading over summer break !

Our next PTA meeting will be held Monday, June 20, 2011 at Cornwell Avenue School at 7:30pm.  It is our last meeting for the year, sign-up lists will be available for committees for next year 2011-2012.

NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS ..

OK, so we are beginning to come up to the 21st Century.  The West Hempstead Elementary PTA has an e-mail address.  You can contact the PTA at WHElemPTA@aol.com with questions, concerns, requests, ideas, etc..   Ridiculous posts and/or questions will be DELETED.  We are trying to be helpful, so please do not abuse this.  Sometimes questions, concerns and ideas aren't brought up, out of fear of many things.  This can keep it fairly anonymous and maybe be helpful.
This has NOTHING to do with the schools.  We cannot change things, deal with teachers etc., for that you will have to contact the schools directly.
